Sometime before 1749, William Magill (I) married again. His second wife's name was Margaret. Evidently she was a widow when he married her, as he willed "ye gray mare to her son, David Gass." When the will went to probate, she renounced all claim to any of the legacies in the will, asking that everything go to the Magill children, as she was only their step-mother.

William Magill (II) was six feet tall, had black hair and blue eyes, and very good health. He had only a primary education. He probably came to America with his father in 1726. William Magill (II) died at the home of his son James, eight miles south of Greenville, Tennessee, in 1805. The cause of death is given as old age. He was ninety years old. His occupation is given as farming; his politics, Whig; and his religion, Presbyterian.
WILLIAM MAGILL (III)
William Magill (III) was the son of William Magill (II). The date of his birth is not known. He was probably born in Pennsylvania as the family did not move to Virginia until 1745, and his father's will, dated October 10, 1749, refers to him as if he were a grown man. William Magill (III) probably died in 1813, as his will was probated in Lincoln Co., Kentucky, in that year.
In 1785, William Magill (III) moved with his family and the family of Henry Baughman from Augusta Co., Virginia, by way of South Carolina, to Lincoln Co., Kentucky, where his brother John Magill had gone 3 years earlier.
William Magill (III) built his large brick home about two miles northeast of Crab Orchard, on Dix River. Henry Baughman built a mill on Dix River and later returned to Virginia, to bring his mother out to Kentucky as was killed by Indians on the road. On January 3, 1803, William married Mary "Polly" Baughman, daughter of Henry Baughman, who was born November 7, 1780. They had seven children, namely Olivia, Henderson, Baughman, Samuel P., Lorenzo Hamilton, John Frame, and William (V).
In the spring of 1832, William Magill (IV) moved with his family from Lincoln Co., Kentucky, to Ray Co., Missouri. The trip was made in wagons, the family carriage, and on horseback. Along with the Magill family, the families of Thomas Hamilton and Joseph Pettus made the trip. In Ray Co., William (IV) purchase a farm for himself and one for each of his children, except his son William (V), from the United States Government. William (V) was willed the old homestead on the death of his father William (IV).
